IGHI hosts a talk by Pieter Degeling on May 1

The Institute of Global Health Innovation and the Centre for Global Health Research at Imperial College will host a talk by Professor Pieter Degeling on May 1 on How Culture and Historically Embedded Organisational Practices Shape Room for Manoeuvre in Hospital from 18:00 to 19:00 in the Roger Bannister Lecture Theatre, Imperial College London Medical School Building, St Mary's Campus. TEDMED Live London - April 21st 2014 at the Royal Albert Hall

TEDMED Live London will curate a spectacular and provocative programme of talks on the world’s most famous stage. It will host a broadcast of TEDMED straight from the Kennedy Center stage in Washington, combined with world-renowned speakers on the stage of the Royal Albert Hall itself.

Following the annual TED Conference’s lead to explore technology, entertainment and design, TEDMED Live London will feature inspiring short talks and stunning artistic performances that celebrate the power of unexpected connections to create exciting possibilities. It will showcase a neuroscientist combining her talk with theatrical performance; a surgeon who was inspired by paintings from the 16th century; and performances from a group who entertained millions at the London 2012 Olympics Opening Ceremony.

Next Generation Global Health Innovators - Student Challenges 2013
9 November 2013

Every year, the Institute of Global Health Innovation give students of Imperial College the opportunity to showcase their research and win prize money to fund their project, which can be relating to any aspect of global health innovation. The 2013 Dragon’s Den style contest will take place Wednesday 27th November 2013, Lecture Theatre 145, Huxley Building. To reserve your place, complete the event registration.

Past entries have focused on various health challenges such as aiding patients with physical disabilities in resource-poor settings, improved sanitation and hygiene, tackling chronic diseases and diagnostics for infectious diseases. Last year’s winning entry was from John Chetwood, a fifth year medical student at the College.

ICSM Society of Research and Academia (SORA) National Conference 2013

Freshers' Meeting - Monday 14th October 6:30pm

Wellcome Trust Centre for Global Health Research’s Inaugural Meeting
21 August 2013

The Wellcome Trust Centre for Global Health Research will be holding it's inaugural meeting on Monday 16th and Tuesday 17th September. The two day meeting will include talks from many senior Imperial College academics as well as prominent academics from partner institutions in South Africa, The Gambia, Kenya, Thailand, Peru, Kenya and Uganda. Themes will include HIV and TB, malaria, neglected tropical diseases and non-communicable diseases, child health, and viral diseases among others.

MP Adam Afriyie confirmed for keynote speech on December 11th

The team at AGV are delighted to announce that Adam Afriyie MP will give the keynote speech for our December 11th Impact conference on policy, politics and science. Mr Afriyie is currently Conservative MP for Windsor, former Shadow Minister of State for Science and Innovation,  a graduate of Imperial College and an advocate of evidence-based policy making.

Panel discussion on Nation Building: The Role of the West in African Health, Development and Governance

A Global Village and the World Food Programme will host a panel discussion on the Global Food Crisis on Wednesday, October 20th at 6pm in the Read Lecture Theatre, Sherfield. Chaired by Prof. Alan Fenwick OBE, the panel will be composed of Prof. Peter Smith, Prof. Helen Ward and Dr. Martin Bloem, Chief for Nutrition and HIV/AIDS Policy at the UN World Food Programme in Rome. Can science and innovation help tackle global food shortages? Come and join in the debate!
